Installation Tips (Chute Deflector Replacement)
- Work on a clean, level surface with the machine off. Disconnect the spark plug wire (gas units) or remove the key and battery (electric units).
- Set the deflector to a mid-position before disassembly to reduce spring tension.
- Remove the deflector mounting hardware (carriage bolts and flange nuts). Note spring/bracket orientation before taking it apart.
- Replace the 138-3671 gasket if torn, missing, or stuck to the chute—this prevents snow leakage and helps proper alignment.
- Install the new 138-3615-01 deflector and tighten hardware evenly. Do not overtighten—binding usually means misalignment or pinched gasket.
- Cycle the deflector through its full range and confirm it moves smoothly and holds position.
- If the deflector won’t move from the handle, inspect cable routing and retention (cable clamp/anchor) and replace worn parts as needed.
Notes for Replacements
- Hardware may vary by model and serial number. Match fasteners to the unit’s illustrated parts list when possible.
- Deflector “won’t stay put” complaints are often caused by worn latch/pawl/trigger parts or improper spring orientation.
