Hustler OEM 129242-1 Deck Idler Guide Slide
The Hustler 129242-1 Deck Idler Guide Slide serves as the guide, tensioner and mount for the Idler Pulley and Select Mower Deck Belt on your Mower’s Cutting Deck. Its purpose is to maintain correct belt tension and allow smooth idler movement as the Deck Belt Cycles through Operation. Proper belt tension prevents slippage, reduces wear on Pulleys and Belts, and Preserves cutting quality. This slide works with the Mower Deck Idler Spring and Pulley assembly allowing movement which enables load and tension forgiveness and ensure long, trouble-free life of the drive belt system.
Important Note: 129242-1 Does Contain a Close Relative 350884 that is Used on a Wide Range of X-ONE, X-RIDE, Super Z HD, Super 104 Models Whereas 129242-1 is Only Currently Used on a Select Few. Installation Directions
- Park mower on a **flat, level surface**. Engage parking brake and shut off engine.
- Disconnect spark plug wire to prevent accidental start.
- Lower the Mower Deck to access the idler assembly
- Locate the existing Idler Guide Slide on the Mower Deck where the idler pulley and spring mount.
- Remove belt from the idler pulley by relieving tension between the Idler Pulley and the Mower Deck Belt Via the Chain Used to Retain Tension.
- Remove worn or damaged deck Idler Guide Slide (129242-1). Retain hardware if re-using.
- Inspect associated components - idler pulley, spring and UHMW wear pads/rails (UHMW Wear Pad/Rails are the Wearable Component of the Slide and are Recommended to be Replaced if Replacing the Slide) - replacing as needed.
- Install the new 129242-1 Guide Slide in original orientation. Torque fasteners per factory spec (see service manual for torque values).
- Reposition idler pulley and spring onto the slide.
- Reinstall belt over the Pulley or Pulleys and verify proper belt seating on all pulleys.
- Tension Belt Via the spring and chain using the recommended Spring Measurements.
- Raise deck and reconnect spark plug wire.
- Perform a test run - verify smooth idler travel and correct deck belt operation - Visually Recheck Mower Deck Belt to Unsure that it Remained in Correct Alignment after Operation.
Spring Measurement & Belt Tension Notes
For correct deck belt tension, many Hustler deck assemblies use a **spring measurement from outside hook to outside hook** spring measurement from hook to hook on models that use 781302 Spring and Adj. Chain Link should be 9.3 in. - 10.0 in. Review the Image Below for example of Measurement. (For Additional Spring Measurement Length Refer to manufacturer notes in Mower Deck Belt routing section of Service Manual).
Installation Tips & Best Practices
- Always route the deck belt as shown in your mower’s owner or service manual before installing the idler slide (For Additional Mower Deck Belt References on Correct Mower Deck Belt Routing, refer to the Images under Correct Mower Deck Belt Part Number for your Particular Model on Hilly Ridge Website - Correct Part Number Can be Found on Hilly Ridge Website by Typing Part Number in the Search tab or Typing Mower Deck Belt for Model ----- in the Search Tab).
- Inspect all pulleys for smooth rotation and replace if they Wobble Excessively or the Bearings Seem Rough.
- Use proper belt tension measurement (spring length and pulley travel) to avoid belt slip under load.
- Apply Small Amount of Grease or Lubricant to the Idler Guide Slide and UHMW Rail While Re-assembling.
